[NEWS] Your Kid’s Next Read Live Book Week Event

It’s the first of August, which means that Book Week is almost upon us!

Every children’s author I know is taking their vitamins and limbering up for what is now, for many, an entire month of activities and engagements.

I’m all booked out for Book Week, speaking in schools in Sydney and in Brisbane, and I’m also looking forward to the Illawarra-South Coast CBCA Branch’s Children’s Literary Lunch on 14 August in Wollongong.

The lunch is a brilliant opportunity to catch up with local authors such as Sue Whiting, Nat Amoore, Debra Tidball, Edwina Wyatt, and more, and, of course, to meet the hundreds of keen readers who attend the lunch each year. This year, I’m giving the workshop and I can’t wait to help the kids to find their writing superpower.

The first Your Kid’s Next Read event in BRISBANE

This year, Book Week also has a brand-new highlight for me – the first-ever live event/meet-up for the Your Kid’s Next Read Facebook community* in Brisbane on Wednesday 21 August, 2019. Tickets are $25 each and you can buy them  here.

The format for the event is simple:

•wine and nibbles and the opportunity to meet fabulous members of the YKNR community and other interested parties,

•a live (and lively) discussion featuring the YKNR admin team: Megan Daley (teacher-librarian, blogger extraordinaire at Children’s Books Daily, and author of Raising Readers: How to nurture a child’s love of books), Allison Rushby, author of 20+ books for children, YA and adults, and me.

We’ll address some of the most popular questions that come up in our group over and over, as well as our thoughts on engaging kids in reading, how reading helps kids with their own writing, encouraging reluctant readers, catering for advanced readers and much, much more. We’re happy to answer your questions so bring them along!

There’ll also be book sales and signings.

Tickets for the event are selling fast, so please join us at our Book Week Event for Grown-ups. And, no, you don’t have to dress up… though feel free to do so if you wish!

You’ll find more details and tickets here.

*Your Kid’s Next Read is a fast-growing community of parent, teachers, librarians, authors, booksellers and other interested parties, aimed at finding the perfect ‘next book’ for every young reader. At present, we have nearly 8000 members. We think it takes a village to raise a reader, and we’d love you to become a part of ours!
